How to unlock animals
Buy and build the appropriate housing, then adopt a cow or chicken from Hayden. Current sources do not support the old requirement to repair the Mill or complete Tea with Hayden first.
Complete Restocking Mistria's Food Reserves 2, then Upgrade Hayden's Barn. Submit 400 Wood, 500 Stone, and 8 Iron Ingots, then pay Adeline 4,000t. This unlocks horses, sheep, ducks, and rabbits. Alpacas and capybaras also require Winter 1. See the Hayden guide for his published character details.

Large buildings can hold an Animal Sprite Statue. Move residents to another building or daycare before relocating housing; pregnant animals cannot be transferred.
Daily care and production
Feed and pet every animal daily. In good weather, let them graze outside, then call them back before the night ends. Animals left outside overnight do not produce the next day and lose relationship progress.
Coop animals mature after 3 days and Barn animals after 5. Color tiers affect appearance, not production. Hearts and production tier control product quality: current data records a chance for Golden products from 8 Hearts and guaranteed Golden products at 10 Hearts.
How animal breeding works
Choose a mature male and female of the same species.
Raise both to at least 2 Hearts and house them together.
Keep one building space empty.
Give both animals the matching Heart-Shaped Treat on the same day.
Expect birth or hatching about four game days later.
Once a new color is bred, it becomes available in Hayden's Adoption menu.
Color tiers and Tier 6
Same tier
T(x) × T(x) → T(x+1), except at T6
Adjacent tiers
T(x) × T(x+1) → T(x+1) or T(x+2)
Guaranteed T6
T6 × T6 → T6
T5 × T5 can produce the current season's T6, but does not guarantee it. T4 × T5 can also reach T6 at a lower chance, while T6 × T5 improves the chance without guaranteeing the result.
The current evidence does not establish a fixed Tier 6 percentage or average number of attempts. It also does not support a complete formula for parents more than one tier apart. Avoid starting a seasonal attempt on the final day because the exact changeover boundary is not documented.
Ranching automation

Tool

What it automates
Auto-Feeder
Ranching 45; 5,000t from Hayden
Refills troughs from stored food each morning in a Large Barn or Coop.
Big Bell
Ranching 45; The Bell Tolls; 155 Essence
Calls all animals inside or outside at once.
Animal Sprite Statue
Large Barn or Coop; powered by an Essence Stone
Automatically pets animals housed in that building.
Daycare
Hayden's Shop
Stores animals outside your active buildings and frees space.
Which animal should you get first?
Choose by purpose, not a context-free ranking. A hen has the lowest entry cost. A female cow supplies daily milk for cooking and Mill processing. Sheep support wool crafting; rabbits and alpacas cover specialized materials. For seasonal colors, start with the species you actually want to breed repeatedly.
Common animal problems
Hayden will not sell an animal: Build the matching Barn or Coop first.
Only cows and chickens appear: Complete Upgrade Hayden's Barn. Alpacas and capybaras also require Winter 1.
An animal is not producing: Confirm it is mature, fed, and brought inside overnight.
Breeding will not start: Check species, sex, maturity, 2 Hearts each, shared housing, one empty slot, and both treats on the same day.
A new color did not appear: Individual colors and Tier 6 attempts are not guaranteed.
A prettier color did not improve output: Color tier and production tier are separate systems.
Evidence limits
Current sources do not establish a fixed Tier 6 percentage, an average number of attempts, a complete formula for parents more than one tier apart, or the exact seasonal cutoff on the final day. This guide leaves those values unknown instead of turning community estimates into rules.
Frequently asked questions
How do you unlock animals in Fields of Mistria?
Build a Barn or Coop, then adopt the matching animal from Hayden. Complete Upgrade Hayden’s Barn to expand the roster.
Which animals can you get first?
Cows and chickens are available first after you build their housing.
How do you unlock every animal?
The Barn upgrade unlocks horses, sheep, ducks, and rabbits. Alpacas and capybaras also require Winter 1 or later.
How long do animals take to mature?
Coop animals take 3 days and Barn animals take 5 days.
How do you breed animals?
House a mature male and female of the same species together, raise both to 2 Hearts, leave one space open, and give both the matching Heart-Shaped Treat on the same day.
How do you get Tier 6 seasonal animals?
Breed high-tier animals during the target season. T5 × T5 can produce T6 but does not guarantee it; T6 × T6 guarantees T6.
Do animal colors increase production?
No. Color tier changes appearance. Hearts and production tier govern product output.
How do you automate animal care?
Use the Ranching 45 Auto-Feeder and Big Bell, plus an Animal Sprite Statue in a Large Barn or Coop.
